I plan to visit Rome, Italy in July 2010 and want to stay in a safe, clean, reasonable hotel in the “Center” of Rome where my English speaking teenagers and I can stay and access most of the tourist attractions within walking distance. Any Suggestions?

I’m Looking To Stay At A Four Star Hotel In Rome, Italy?
Saturday, June 27th, 2009Can Any One Suggest Some Cheap Hostel/hotel In Italy – Rome And Florence?
Monday, June 22nd, 2009Most of the cheaper options for Rome will be one & two star places or better hotels outside of the center.
I use venere.com to book hotels in Italy (I live in northern Italy and travel often). After you select city and dates, you can sort by area of the city, price, ratings, and read reviews of specific places. http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/#o=pric…
If you’re looking for cheap and close in Rome, a good option may be the Hotel Romano http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosse… It’s very close to the Forum & Colosseum and within walking distance of two metro stops and the Termini train station.
Another option about 2 blocks to Roma Termini is the Serena http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/esquili…
The cheaper options in Florence are mostly one or two star places near the train station or in outlying districts. No elevators, but not a problem unless you have particularly heavy luggage. One good, cheap option that’s easy walking distance to the train station and close to Piazza Duomo is the Hotel Bavaria http://en.venere.com/hotels_florence/duo…
You might be interested in a stay at a convent or monastery in Italy. These tend to be some of the best lodging bargains available. There are a number of them in Rome. In some places in Italy, a monestary stay may be free. see: http://www.monasterystays.com/?show=page… or http://www.santasusanna.org/comingtorome…
My brother and his wife stayed in a convent in Rome and loved it. A niece and nephew later did the same and also recommended it.
